What's completely and utterly baffling about Killer Klowns is not the plot--that's rather tidily summed up by the title--but the fact that it got made at all. According to the filmmakers, (the Chiodo brothers: Charles, Edward, and Stephen) all it took to convince the studio was a one-page treatment and a picture of a clown holding a gun. It boggles the mind. Anyway, some killer Klowns descend from outer space and start wrapping their hapless victims in cotton candy for later consumption. Debbie and Mike suspect something's amiss, but who will believe them? The movie's greatest asset is its willingness to play on the inherent creepiness of clowns. The Klowns are grotesque parodies of their big-top cousins, hiding hideous malformed teeth behind terrifying circus makeup. It's impossible to tell if Killer Klowns is truly meant to be scary, but it is compelling in its thoroughness: popcorn, balloon animals, and really big shoes are all used to their fullest effect. The only cast member you'll recognize immediately is veteran character actor John Vernon as Officer Mooney, but keep an eye out for Christopher Titus in a small role as Bob McReed. Then just sit back and stare open-mouthed in bewildered joy. --Ali Davis

A. Jones Said: If You Thought You Were Scared Of Clowns Now, Just Wait Until You See This... ( Aug. 28th 2010 )
I love this movie, it is one of the best sci-fi cult classics (or should that be kult Klassics?) to surface from the 80's.
The humor is nerdy, the effects ok and the storyline original.
The opening tune from The Dickies is fun too.
So if you want a film about just what might happen if a space circus came to town, put this on your must see list, who knows it might just push you over the edge enough to run away and join the circus.

I thought I had seen the worst films every made, but then, then I saw this. And somehow, with the tacky story, silly plot, absurd situations, I was still charmed.
All the town kids are up at the town's make-out place. Just hanging around in their cars. Suddenly, something falls from the sky! Is it a falling star? The heroine and hero start walking through the dark woods to find out. And what do they find? We already know what will be there, because the town's bumpkin just took a look! It's a circus tent in the middle of nowhere. And in that tent, which is really a flying saucer created by design challenged aliens, are killer klowns. Just stopping by earth for a little fast food. They quickly begin wrapping the towns folks in cotton candy cocoons (to save for latter).Obviously, the heroes must save the town.
Not since Hark Tsui's vampire film, or the wonderful Indian movie, "The Fog," have I seen such a genuinely stupid plot. But I loved every minute of it. This is just so much fun. I guess there must be talent in there to create something like this.
This film, with its underlying social commentary, will make you laugh, make you cry, and maybe, just maybe, learn a little something about yourself. Nahhh. It's just pointless fun. It belongs on any list of wonderful, inspired, silliness.

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE. The name says it all. KILLER KLOWNS is one of the greatest B-movies of all time, playing off of the campy creature-features of the 50s and 60s while injecting its own unabashed cheesiness and over-the-top humor. In it, a small college town is overrun by a group of blood-sucking aliens that arrive to Earth in the form of evil killer klowns! The Chiodo Brothers come through with some of the most inventive set designs and frightening costuming in the genre, bringing many people's inane fears into reality. With so many great gags, it is impossible for anyone to pick a favorite between the bloodhound balloon dogs, the killer shadow puppets, the klown boxing, and countless other hilariously absurd scenes. Still, in spite of its light-hearted tone, there just as many terrifying moments throughout the film, including Officer Mooney as a human dummy or the bloodied bodies wrapped in cotton candy. No amount of praise is adequate enough for KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, it is simply a top-rate Horror Comedy that should be on every fan's must-see list!
